Deer and Doe Melilot Blouse

in a soft cotton pique fabric from the SALE!

I actually made this cute little blouse back in November but as things go, I just didn’t get a chance to blogging about it till now. Baby….Christmas….sale time…..I’ve got all the excuses!

Anyway, I fancied making the Deer and Doe Melilot blouse since I first started realising that everything I wore needed to be somehow compatible with feeding the baby. This fits the bill as its still loose enough to pull up or I can just unbutton it.

It’s actually a fairly simple make as far as blouses go and I really like the drop shoulder design of it.

The short sleeve version just has a stand collar on the pattern envelope but its really easy to mix the variations and I just added on the cute little rounded collar to my version.

I really like the placement of the pockets too. They aren’t really practical, especially with such a light weight fabric but I think it would look a bit boring without them.

It’s got quite a curved hem on it that scoops up at the sides, which makes it quite tricky to hem, even with a really narrow hem. I ended up with little tuck bits on the inside of my hem but you totally can’t see them anyway.

I think it looks nice tucked in too and sort of blousing over the top of your waist band.

Black isn’t usually my colour by I wanted to make something that would go with these awesome Orla Keily trousers I got in the sale in the summer for a night out I had planned. I am actually so surprised by how much I like it, given that I own nothing else black! It just seems to sit really well for me (I made a straight up size 38).

I used this really lovely cotton pique fabric, which is very lightweight and floaty (and it's now in the SALE - yay!) It is a little bit transparent so I’ve worn it with a vest top underneath but you could just wear it on its own too for a more….oh la la look! Especially if its to be an evening wear top.

The subtle texture really catches the light, which I think is lovely.

We've still got some fabrics left in the clearance SALE with up to 40% off ahead of soooo many new fabrics arriving this month.

Seriously, I cannot wait and will keep you updated as soon as they get here!
